Brief summary of the project
Cities involved in this project locate in the periphery in their countries. Each city faces a problem of centralization, when it almost always stays outside processes, which are mainly concentrated in capitals and around them. It certainly affects its development. The current economic disparities can be starkly illustrated. So there’s clearly been a strong push lately to use the new approach for revitalizing cities and neighborhoods within the cross-border region. To straighten the region is a multifunctional process, where the character and function of cities should be defined and realized. So each city with its defined mission in the region would straighten its potential and potential of its surrounding areas and as the result the whole region. The main objective of this PROJECT is targeted cooperation between cities from Latvia, Lithuania and Byelorussia for developing and testing an innovative approach to sustainable regeneration of cities and its surrounding areas within the cross-border region. PROJECT desires to improve the image of the region, support economic development and competitiveness and increase the cultural identity. Successful cooperation is a base for sustainable development within the region. Only communicating, meeting, exchanging of experiences with neighbor colleagues is possible to reach good results for the future cross-border region development. The idea is to gather representatives from cross-border region's cities Daugavpils, Kraslava, Zarasai, Visaginas, Utena, Braslav, Verhnedvinsk and Novapolotsk to achieve a focused, integrated region regeneration strategy. And then having for the basis this region regeneration strategy produce more detailed proposals for each of the citiy and prepare technical pilot projects' documentation for further implementation.
