The overall objective: developing cross-border cooperation between Lithuania and Latvia through schoolchildren and schoolteachers in an eligible Southern Priority Area, establishing long-term partnership relations with educational institutions, tourism organisations in Latvia, promoting sports tourism, as a vehicle of educating personalities. Expected outputs: International tourism leaders workshop. Tourism festival (discussion 'Promoting best practise and tourism traditions in Lithuanian and Latvian schools', practical rock climbing training, viewing two video films, an orienteering sports event, a trip around Vilnius). International high school tourism tournament 'Let’s Find Out Lithuania'. International high school tourism equipment tournament in Soulkrasti (Latvia). A boat trip in the Aukštaitija National Park. International high school tourism equipment tournament 'Golden Fall'. International high school tourism equipment tournament in Tervete (Latvia). Teaching materials developed on a CD on the subject of sports tourism for high school pupils. Target groups: schoolchildren and schoolteachers from Šiauliai, Panevežys, Utena, Alytus, Kaunas, and Vilnius provinces, and Latgale, Zemgale, Vidzeme, and Kurzeme regions. Results: ? Closer cooperation between educational establishments and tourism organisations. The number of follow-up projects is 3. The number of new institutions to make cross-border contacts is 5. ? Improved knowledge of pupils and teachers on the activities of tourism in school, organising and conducting tournaments. The number of participants of the international tourism leaders seminar - 30. The number of pupils participating in the project – 970. ? Improved physical fitness and tourism skills of pupils. The number of pupils taking part in the boat hike and the tournaments – 940. Impact: ? Improved pupils’ and teachers’ understanding of tourism. ? A growth in the number of trained tourism leaders. ? Improved meaningful leisure time of pupils, encouragement of their initiative. ? A contribution to the development of tourism sector in the EU countries Latvia and Lithuania. Progress report All project objectives as planned according planned activities have been achieved from the start of the project until now. ? International tourism leaders workshop in Anykšciai (Lithuania) on 11-12 February. Participants: 31 teachers. ? Tourism festival (discussion 'Promoting best practise and tourism traditions in Lithuanian and Latvian schools', practical rock climbing training, viewing 2 video films, an orienteering sports event, a trip around Vilnius) in Vilnius (Lithuania) on 3-5 March. Participants: 30 pupils, 6 group leaders. ? International high school tourism tournament in Berciunai, Panevežys region (Lithuania) on 18-21 June. Participants: 154 pupils, 17 teachers, 30 judges. ? International high school tourism equipment tournament in Saulkrasti (Latvia) 27 June - 1 July. Participants: 120 pupils, 20 teachers, 25 judges. ? A boat trip in the Aukštaitija National Park (Lithuania) on 17-21 July. Participants: 40 pupils, 6 group leaders. ? International high school tourism equipment tournament in Aukštadvaris, Trakai region (Lithuania) on 22-24 September. Participants: 114 pupils, 14 teachers, 30 judges. ? International schoolchildren competition in handling tourism equipment in Tervete, Dobele region (Latvia) on 27-29 October. Participants: 127 pupils, 20 teachers, 15 judges. ? Publicity and information of project's activities. 200 brochures, 1000 leaflets, 10 press articles for Lithuanian and Latvian newspapers, 14 articles on websites www.ljtc.lt, www.dotnuvele.lt, www.remoss.lv. The information materials on the subject of sports tourism was prepared on a CD-R and DVD-R. There were corrections between the budget lines as also between work packages during implementation of the project. Most expenses were spent for travel and accommodation.
